Born on September 24, 1961, in Lupwe, Lissam, Ussa Local Government Area of Taraba State. Married with Children. Graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University in 1984 with Bachelor of Science Degree in International Studies. Also holds a Master of Arts (2020) degree from Leicester University in the politics of Conflicts and Violence.
